KaSaMa Teachers Community

KaSaMa Teachers Community is a professional online community for K to 12 science and mathematics teachers. Established by the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED), KaSaMa Teachers was launched in 2011 to bridge the gap between UP NISMED and the Filipino science and mathematics education community, and at that time, to help science and mathematics educators keep up with the then newly implemented K to 12 curriculum reform.

Coined from Ka-Science Ka-Mathematics, KaSaMa Teachers stands for an online bayanihan driven by a genuine desire to support and empower teachers. The resulting name is the same as the Filipino word "kasama," which means companion, partner, collaborator, buddy-an apt description for the character that exists among members of the online community. The logo, bearing the colors of our country's flag, shows four hands offered in support, representing the collaboration among Filipino science and mathematics educators.

KaSaMa Teachers offers access to K to 12 teaching and learning materials, professional development opportunities including webinars, and a platform for knowledge sharing, just-in-time coaching, and mentoring among its members.

KaSaMa Teachers 2.0

In 2019, UP NISMED partnered with the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) to strengthen the KaSaMa Teachers Community. Through the partnership, KaSaMa Teachers is envisioned to be the largest community of Filipino science and mathematics teachers.

UP NISMED develops, curates, and manages content and services on KaSaMa Teachers while GBF provides technology and promotional support.
